The following is important information that you need to know about your tax exempt status.The producer is now responsible for obtaining a ‘tax exempt registration number’ from the State of Texas. The first link below will take the producer to the web page and form to do that. It can either be printed and filled in, or filled in online and submitted. IT IS THE GROWER’S RESPONSIBILITY TO FILE THIS FORM AND OBTAIN THE TAX EXEMPT REGISTRATION NUMBER. Beginning January 1, 2012 we will be required to start charging sales tax on those who have NOT done so. The second link is the NEW ‘Tax Exemption Certificate’ which we need to have on file for our customers. You will see that it is similar to the old form with a couple of notable exceptions. 1. A place for a Driver’s License Number and State Issued if the customer is paying with cash 2. The last 2 blanks in the main form request the ‘Ag/Timber Number’; That is the Tax Exempt Registration number obtained by the farmer. The second blank asks for the name of the person to whom that number is registered. IT’S VERY IMPORTANT TO GET ALL OF THIS INFORMATION. |
